The Nelson Mandela Challenge is taking place at Moses Mabhida Stadium this year, with Bafana Bafana taking on Paraguay. The last time these two teams went head to head was in 2010 in Paraguay’s capital of Asuncion. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. The annual football match was founded in 1994 as a way to raise money for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.

President of the SA Football Association, Danny Jordaan, stated that they couldn’t be happier with the opposition team to mark Madiba’s 100 years, and he encourages all fans to buy tickets and celebrate the annual event.
“We urge football fans to come in their thousands to pay homage to this South African and global icon whose love for children is well-documented,” said Jordaan. “The match between Bafana Bafana and Paraguay is a fitting tribute to this giant who would have been 100 years old this year.”
