They might be out of the spotlight, but on the field the Legends definitely still have game! From local favourites like Lucas Radebe and Doctor Khumalo, to international greats like Robbie Fowler and Bruce Grobbelaar, it was a star-studded lineup that definitely did not disappoint.

The highly-anticipated showdown between the Liverpool Legends and the Kaizer Chiefs Legends became an entertaining goal-after-goal display for the 30,000 fans. The two sides definitely didn’t leave the crowds wanting for more, with the game ending with a 5-all draw. But the afternoon ended with the Kaizer Chiefs reigning supreme after securing a 4-2 win during penalty shoot-outs after the match.

But to the fans, the Legends exhibition match was about so much more. It was about nostalgia, and seeing soccer’s most admired heroes take to field once again.

Czech attacking midfielder Vladimir Smicer said:

“The reunion was almost like a 1980s rock band getting back together for one last gig”.

The game served up plenty of football excellence for both sets of fans, and became another historic footballing moment for Durban’s majestic stadium.
