It’s official, the Reds Legends are booked to play Chiefs Legends as part of their Liverpool Legends 2013 Tour of South Africa. The veteran players of the two well-established teams will go head-to-head at the Moses Mabhida Stadium next month, and will battle it out on Saturday, 16 November 2013.
The Liverpool legends side will be packed with European champions and some of the top names in the club’s history, covering the glory period from the 1960s through to the last decade. The likes of former defender Phil Neal, who won an astonishing 22 medals during his time at Anfield, former Kop favorite and England international John Barnes, twin strike sensations, John Aldridge and Robbie Fowler as well as Durban born goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar, are just some of the top names set for South Africa next month.
John Barnes had this to say:
“We have always enjoyed fantastic support in South Africa, where Liverpool is as loved as anywhere else in the world. It will be an honour for us to play in front of these passionate fans and show some of the skills that have not only won us many trophies, but millions of friends around the world too.”
Kaizer Chiefs will be able to call upon some of the top names in the club’s history – playmaker Doctor Khumalo, rock at the back Lucas Radebe, midfield maestro John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu and captain fantastic Neil Tovey.
From Doctor Khumalo, Kaizer Chiefs Legend:
“We have had some great players in our history and for those that never saw them play in their prime, this will be a wonderful opportunity to show the younger fans the skills that made these players such legends.”
Aside from the match itself, the Liverpool Legends players will also be involved in a Golf Day at the Zimbali Country Club on Wednesday, November 13; will host a Gala Dinner on Thursday, November 14, as well as conduct coaching clinics and hold autograph signing sessions during their stay in KwaZulu-Natal.
