This year, the life-changing Engen Knockout Challenge celebrates 16 fruitful years. Since its inception in 2003, the tournament has successfully afforded 30 000 prospective soccer stars a chance to showcase their talents. The tournament attracts local and international scouts who are on the hunt for football’s next best thing. To date, 181 of these U17 players have been contracted to play professionally.
The Durban leg of the tournament kicks off on the 13th of July at the Moses Mabhida Stadium Sports Complex, and will run until the 15th of July. The football weekend will see 16 U17 teams compete for the championship, as well as an exciting opportunity to play in the National Finals in Johannesburg against other regional winners.
The first two teams headed to the National Finals are Hellenic FC from Cape Town and Apex United FC from Port Elizabeth. Johannesburg, Durban, Bloemfontein and the Free State champions will be determined once each region has completed the tournament.
The Engen Knockout Challenge is open and free to the public, so pack some blankets and come support the 031’s rising soccer stars!
