Freedom Day weekend is coming up, which means the aQuelle Tour Durban is upon us! To keep things fresh, the Durban cycle classic has announced some bold innovations for this year’s edition.

To cater to those looking for more of a challenge, new 115km and 90km routes have been added alongside the much-loved 45km route. The longest route will take cyclists into a new section of the city, ensuring that it’s an exciting ride.

“It is essentially a reverse of the old 100km route,” he said. “From the race headquarters at Moses Mabhida Stadium, it heads north up the M4 past Mdloti and turning at the Watson Highway circle before heading back towards Durban. Then we turn onto Riverside Road and then along North Coast Road and onto Queen Nandi Drive and cross the Mgeni River on the new Super Highway into Pinetown before descending on the M7 and returning to the finish on the South Coast freeway,” said Event Director, Alec Lenferna.

The Cyclocross event has been replaced with two new MTB races to be held on Saturday, 25 April at Cornubia Mall.

Despite these exciting changes, the race will still be geared towards raising money for the Domino Foundation. So, make sure to enter before 10 April 2020, and enjoy cycling for a cause!
