After two long years, our national soccer team will be back on the Moses Mabhida Stadium pitch. Bafana Bafana will take on Libya in their Group E AFCON Qualifier clash on Saturday, the 8th of September.
The last time the South African soccer tea, took part in the AFCON tournament was in 2015 and 2013, after qualifying as a host country. We remember the latter well, as Moses Mabhida Stadium hosted five AFCON 2013 games, including the semi-final between Nigeria and Mali.
However, after the national team’s win over Nigeria’s Super Eagles in June 2017 (2 – 0) and the recent squad announcement, we’re confident that Bafana Bafana has what it takes to bring the AFCON 2019 trophy home to South Africa. Here’s who’s hitting the field:
Goalkeepers: Itumeleng Khune (Chiefs), Ronwen Williams (SS Utd), Darren Keet (Wits).
Defenders: Ramahlwe Mphahlele (Chiefs), Motjeka Madisha (Sundowns), Siyanda Xulu (Maritzburg), Innocent Maela (Pirates), Thulani Hlatshwayo, Sifiso Hlanti, Buhle Mkhwanazi (Wits).
Midfielders: Dean Furman, Teboho Mokoena (SS Utd), Siphesihle Ndlovu (Maritzburg), Hlompho Kekana, Sibusiso Vilakazi (Sundowns), Bongani Zungu (Amiens, France), Kamohelo Mokotjo (Brentford, England).
